Low Dietary Total Antioxidant Capacity Intake Associated with Increased Risk of Inflammatory Bowel Disease: A Case-Control Study

The aim of this case-control study was to investigate the relationship between dietary total antioxidant capacity (TAC) and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The study included 100 IBD patients and 100 healthy controls. The dietary intake of TAC was assessed using a food frequency questionnaire, and the data was analyzed using multivariate logistic regression models. The study found that the dietary TAC intake was significantly lower in IBD patients compared to healthy controls. Furthermore, the study found that a low dietary TAC intake was associated with an increased risk of IBD. This association was stronger in patients with ulcerative colitis than in patients with Crohn's disease.
